Navigating through pregnancy can be different for every person. While it can be an exciting and rewarding time, it can also be difficult managing the discomforts that come with growing a baby inside you. Because you are experiencing so many hormonal changes during pregnancy, it is important to know how to look out for and manage these common symptoms.
During the first trimester you may experience extreme fatigue, moodiness and soreness in your body. Headaches, nausea and increased trips to the bathroom can also occur. Eating foods high in protein, drinking lots of fluids and taking supplements like vitamin B6 or ginger can help reduce nausea and help keep your energy up.
In the second trimester nausea and fatigue might subside, but as the baby grows you might start to experience more pressure, stretching and swelling. It is essential during this time to stay active to help stretch muscles, to wear comfortable shoes, and to stay hydrated. Not staying in one position for too long can also help reduce aches and pains. (This can also be the perfect opportunity for you to treat yourself to a massage!)
The third trimester can often be the most uncomfortable where women can experience heartburn, constipation and shortness of breath as the baby places more pressure on the organs. Avoiding acidic foods, adding more fiber, continuing drinking fluids and staying active are critical during this time.
